Millions of golfers spend their entire golfing life playing golf to a standard which “to them” is unsatisfactory. I am referring here to the players who despite their passion and love for the game can not break 90 or even 100. They have studied all the instructional books, read all the magazines, spent a lot of money on golf lessons, but still can’t master the elusive simple looking sport.
The reason is because simple though the golf swing looks, it is in fact built on a complex series of athletic movements which must occur in tandem in order to have the club head square through impact on every strike.
Professional golfers spend years practising, hitting thousands of golf balls to develop perfect timing and accuracy in their golf swings. Remember being one centimetre off line through impact can result in a complete mishit.
What must the high handicap player do in order to hit better strikes if he or she is unable to “master” this complex series of moves involved in the swing pattern?
They have to develop a swing which limits the complex series of movements, which occur in the conventional golf swing.
BODY POWER GOLF SWING
One way of doing this is to play ” using a wide stance”. This is done by widening the feet placement so that the feet are positioned just wider than the shoulders.
This results in a tighter control of the hips and body movement resulting in the arms and hands playing a bigger part in the swing wind up.
Many professionals over the past century and some top amateurs have played with a wide stance and played great golf.
Max Faulkner a top playing professional and Joe Carr a great Irish amateur are two examples.
Playing in this fashion can result in cutting a few strokes from a handicap golfer’s score and may in fact make a tremendous difference to their overall swing technique. Give it a try!!!
