Irons are accuracy clubs. Never try to power irons. Irons must be struck smoothly and rhythmically. The great Sam Snead practiced every day with a seven iron and he was one of the golfing greats. He maintained iron play was vital in the golf swing. Jack Nicklaus arguably the greatest golfer of all time, wrote, that anyone who hit their seven iron perfectly, should be able to hit every other club in the bag equally well. The reason for this is because “The same swing is used for every club”.
A perfect way to practice, is to go to a golf range and practice for thirty minutes, only using a seven iron. After the thirty minutes are up, change to hitting a seven iron and a seven wood alternately. This will develop a constant rhythm to all your golf strikes. In my book “Body Power Swing” I will show you a new technique whereby you can create perfect timing in the golf swing when playing irons.
