The reason the golf swing is so difficult to repeat, is because it involves far more body movement than most people realize.
(Right Handed People)
There is left to right lateral movement from left leg to right leg immediately the backswing starts.
There is right leg to left leg lateral movement during the forward swing.
There is body coil from left to right during the backswing, which includes a left to right shoulder turn.
There is right to left body coil which includes a right to left shoulder turn during the forward swing.
All these movements must work in tandem to ensure a perfect connection with the ball at impact.
If the club at impact is one centimetre off line a mishit of varying degrees will result.
NO WONDER GOLF IS DIFFICULT!!!
How can we combat this?
Here is two ways of making the swing easier.
- Adopt a wide stance.
Stand with both feet wide apart. A guide is to place the feet wider than shoulder level. This results in a more compact hip and shoulder turn, giving you more control.
You will have a hands and arm swing with this type of set up.
You might find your golf improves playing this way.
- 2. Adopt a narrow stance.
Feet just inside your shoulder width. This makes the swing more of a tighter coiling action which you might find easier to control because you have reduced a great deal of the lateral lower body action.
Try both these methods see if your game improves.
